Jovian Chronicles News!

Several years back Phil sculpted some small Fleet Scale Lancer and Wraith Fighters for Jovian Chronicles. They were made for a planned Fleet Scale version of Jovian Chronicles, that was never completed, back around the time we did our Heavy Gear Fleet Scale game. We finally located the models that had been stored away and added a small ball socket hole on the underside of each of them. These small fighter 2 squad packs are now available to purchase for the first time. If we get enough interest (orders) for the new fleet scale fighters there will be fleet scale exos in the future and maybe a few new spaceships as well. Here is a link to the Jovian Chronicles Miniatures section of the online store for all interested in supporting a rebirth of Jovian Chronicles.

Plus, we also have some of the Jovian Chronicles 2nd Edition Lightning Strike Rulebooks and Companions still available for purchase.

War for Terra Nova - Kickstarter

The Heavy Gear Blitz - War for Terra Nova - Plastic Miniatures Core Starter Set Kickstarter was successfully funded. We raised just over $150K CAD to produce molds needed to make plastic miniatures for our Heavy Gear Blitz Tabletop Wargame.

We will be doing some additional crowd funding to try and unlock a few more model molds for stretch goals not reached during the Kickstarter.

Kickstarter Update: Small Issues with Parts on Several Sprues and Shipping Update

It was brought to our attention this week that a few parts on several of the model sprues have some small issues with dimpling and shrinkage. Its a learning Kickstarter for us and we do our best below to explain the small issues, where they occur and why.

Dimpling can occur on parts when the molds are being setup to run at the best pressure and temperature for the molten plastic. Models LLC may have accidentally included some of the pops, made while the molds were being dialed in, with our shipment thinking they looked like good sprues. We spotted some dimpling occurring on the head part of some of the Hunter sprues and the main hull of some of the MHT-95 Hovertank sprues. Backers brought to our attention some shrinkage on the engine part of the Jager sprues, which we missed completely in our initial check of the model spues when we received them. A few backers have also reported some dimpling occurring on the butt plate area of the Hunter as well. The dark color of the plastic makes it difficult to see, on the next plastics run, we'll ask Models LLC to use a slightly lighter color of grey. The test pops that we received from the mold manufacturer to approve the molds and that were assembled and painted up to show everyone did not have these small dimpling or shrinkage issues. One other thing that we failed to notice was a missing detail on the hip part of the Mounts B sprue. The upper left side of the hip part seems to be missing the upper part of the "X" detail on most sprues. We have included images below of the issues with the various parts on their sprues for everyone to see.

The small issues do not effect game play or the overall look of the models once assembled. There is not much we can do at this point about these small issues as all the plastics have already been popped and delivered to us by Models LLC for all the backer reward packages and we have shipped over half the packages to backers already and getting replacement parts made and shipped out would be very costly. Most of the dimpling can be fixed by players with a little bit of modeling putty to fill-in the area before painting. For the missing "X" detail on the upper left side of the Mounts Hips the missing detail can be painted on or just paint the hips part black so the missing detail is not noticeable.

We have contacted Models LLC about all the issues to make sure they are aware of the sprues with issues to better dial-in the molds or fix them before we run the molds again. One other issue that some backers have asked about is small crack lines on the surface of some of the larger parts. We ask Models LLC about them and we told that the larger parts have multiple entry gates where the molten plastic enters the part cavity and as the part files up the areas were these different flows of molten plastic meet form the crack lines we see on the surface. These crack lines are very small and disappear when the model is painted. Another thing we have seen on some of the larger parts is a black residue that can easily be scrapped off. Models LLC has informed us that when air gets trapped in the mold and the plastic is forced in under high pressure and temperature it can actually cause the trapped air to com-bust leaving the black residue on the surface. They plan on adding some small air venting where need before the molds are run to solve this issue.

Now a quick shipping update we shipped out the last of Wave 2 backer reward packages on Saturday along with some of the Wave 3 packages and have now shipped a total of 678 backer reward packages. We plan to finish shipping the Wave 3 by the middle of this week and then get started on the 4th and final shipping wave.

After all the backer reward packages are shipped, we'll be able to put some more time on the painting guide for the miniatures. In the mean time we wanted to share a Northern Jaguar painting guide video posted on YouTube by one of our backers here is a link to it for everyone to checkout.

JC Fleet Scale Exo-Armors in Pewter!

Dave made the production molds for the small Jovian Chronicles Fleet Scale Pathfinder, Hector, Wyvern, and Syreen Exo-Armors today. I grabbed a set of the first pewter castings and took parts photos for each of the new two squad packs. After that I primed the exos-armors in grey and painted the 3 pronged poseable flight posts in black and assembled the squads. The image below shows the primed Pathfinder, Hector, Wyvern, and Syreen Exo-Armor squad bases in front of Athena and Hachiman Spaceships with the pewter parts photos below.

The image below shows the new 15mm tall Retaliator, Vindicator, Cerberus, and Fury 3d models added the photo of our existing Fleet Scale fighter squads, flight stands, spaceships, and a ruler for scale.

Kickstarter Update: Steel Mold Plates Photos.

This week we have a progress update on the steel mold plates for the plastic injections molds. The company making the molds sent us some early progress photos of some of the steel mold plates. The image below shows the first step in making the molds plates, where they use a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Machine is used to rough out the mold cavities. There is an photo of the CNC Machine cutting one of the mold plates at the bottom of the image. This removes most of the excess steel, but does not do the fine details in the parts cavities.
